There are several new and developing iPad apps for ringing up sales. Look for these high-end features:
Runs on iPad or any PC via web browser
Works offline: ring up sales without the internet, then sync to the cloud
Works with cash drawer, item scanner, credit card swiper
QuickBooks export (although it may be easier to enter it manually)

Or, there are less expensive alternatives that run solo on the iPad without web integration or QuickBooks export...
